The Road Home is adapted from some photos I took just north of Owen Sound while out for a bicycle ride. The painting looks east towards the sound. The title can be taken both literally and spiritually.

This is final treatment (maybe) of the Strenco ST-1 toy robot that has been my inspiration for the painting Dawn of the Machine Age and the automaton Robot Ray. With this painting I hope to gain the favour of our soon to be revealed alien overlords, or I was just looking for something light to paint after The Road Home.

Marooned Monterey

A 1961 Mercury Monterey that was marooned in the back forty of a farm outside Owen Sound. The far side of the car was caved in and one of the wheels is in the back seat. I like the contrast between the rusting relic and its natural setting.

My father-in-law’s Massey Ferguson 65 tractor on their farm in Massie, Ontario, just southeast of Owen Sound. The photo flash made the tractor stand out starkly against the whitewashed barn beams.

This painting is based on a photograph I took of a 1977 Gottlieb Mustang pinball machine. One of my hobbies is restoring electro-mechanical pinball machines. I am an admirer of MC Escher and was inspired by his work to include myself in the pinball reflection.

This is based on a photo of my son playing a 1994 Bally Corvette pinball machine with a 1994 Williams Roadshow in the foreground. I liked the effect of him being lit by the glow from the pinball machine. The background is based on my memories of the industrial plazas in the suburbs of Toronto.

I took some pictures of the iconic Parrish & Heimbecker grain elevator on Owen Sound harbour while kayaking with my kids. I treated this as two separate paintings, completing the top half before I started on the reflection.

The Algoma Central Corporation’s Captain Henry Jackman tied up for the winter in Owen Sound harbour. Owen Sound has a rich history as a busy port on the Great Lakes.
